CADER was founded with great expectations and a profound vision to contribute to reforming education in the Arab World. At CADER, we believe that education is the chief investment for social progress and reform at all levels. For us, it is the most powerful weapon which can be used to change and reform our societies. This being our belief, CADER first targeted the educational sector whose vast influence would positively reflect on the nation's advancement and prosperity.
The education CADER seeks to deep root, through its professional development programmes, is the education of the mind and soul. It is the education that reflects on an individual’s knowledge, skills and attitude. It is a process of lighting a fire as William B. Yeats finely puts it and not of filling a bucket.
Our approach with educators draws on 3 cornerstones:
First: The purpose of learning is ongoing growth. The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot continue their education as the need arises.
Second: Enabling individuals to learn how to think. The emphasis is on developing individuals’ capacities in problem solving and promoting their abilities to produce new things and solutions, not simply to consume and repeat what others had developed.
Third: Skill to do comes from doing. Application in the work place and transfer of learning to real life situations is the criteria for successful learning. Providing practical and authentic learning opportunities for individuals support them in bridging the gap between theory and practice and ensures sustainability of new practices.
Hence, for CADER professional development is an art… An art of awakening the natural curiosity of educators and supporting them to gain some meaningful insights.
